Dito Telecommunity Corp. will give out a free data allocation of 1 gigabyte for each subscriber as it hit a million customers three months after its official rollout.

In a video announcement posted via social media, Dito chief administrative officer Adel Tamano said he was informed that the company hit the million-subscriber mark on Wednesday, June 16.

In line with this, Dito will be giving out 1 million gigabytes of data for its 1 million subscribers.

"I know it's a small thing, but it's a gesture on our part to show you that you guys are our partners and how proud we are," Tamano said in the announcement.

Dito officially launched commercial services in March, in pilot areas in the Visayas and Mindanao. It expanded to the National Capital Region in May.

In a separate statement sent via mobile message to reporters, Tamano said Dito's first 1 million customers will receive a notification through the Dito application and via SMS on how to claim the free data allocation.

"Reaching 1 million subscribers in a span of three months is a feat that all of us at Dito are certainly proud of. I personally would like to thank everyone who has been part of our journey," said Tamano.

As part of its commitments, Dito vowed to deliver 37.03% national population coverage within a minimum average broadband speed of 27 megabits per second (Mbps) in its first year of operations, else risk losing its P24-billion performance bond. Other commitments have also been made for the following years.

The Dito consortium is made up of Uy's Udenna Corporation, Udenna's subsidiary Chelsea Logistics Holdings Inc., and Chinese state-owned China Telecommunications Corporation.

Shares in Dito CME Holdings Corp., the holdings company for Dennis Uy's communications, media, and entertainment businesses, are trading up by 29 centavos or 3.11% at P9.60 apiece as of 11:40 on Wednesday versus Tuesday's finish of P9.31.—AOL, GMA News
